Stop Chasing Supplements: Start with the Foundation

Have you ever felt like there is simply too much health information out there?

Me too.

For years, I was on the "handful of supplements" path. I bought the next promising bottle, read the latest recommendations, and hoped the next supplement would be the one that finally made the difference. If you've been there, you know how exhausting—and expensive—that cycle can become.

Don't get me wrong. I don't believe supplements are inherently bad. Some can absolutely have a place. The problem is when they become the starting point instead of the finishing touch.

It's a bit like trying to decorate a house before you've repaired the foundation.

Start at the Bottom, Not the Top

Over time, I've become convinced that before we focus on adding more, we should first focus on fixing what's underneath.

One of the most foundational places to begin is supporting healthy mitochondrial function. Mitochondria are often called the "powerhouses" of our cells because they help convert the food we eat into usable energy. When our metabolic health is compromised, our cells don't operate as efficiently as they could, not matter how many supplements we put in.

One practical way many people can support better metabolic health is by reducing excess glucose exposure and improving insulin sensitivity through nutrition and lifestyle. As blood sugar and insulin levels become better regulated, the body often has a better environment for repair, recovery, and healing.

Only after we've done that foundational work does it make sense to ask, "What, if anything, do I actually need to add?"

Supplements Are a Multi-Billion Dollar Industry

The supplement industry generates well over $150 billion globally each year, and the market continues to grow. Yet research consistently shows that many supplements provide limited benefit for the average healthy adult when used routinely without a specific deficiency or medical indication.

That doesn't mean supplements never work. It means they work best when they address a real need—not as a substitute for the basics.

Sleep.Nutrition.Movement.Stress management.Metabolic health.

Those are difficult to package into a bottle, but they're where lasting change begins.

Keep It Simple

I'm assuming you've already read the first post where we walked through a simple metabolic self-assessment. If you haven't yet, go take a look before continuing.

My goal with this series isn't to overwhelm you with more information.

It's actually the opposite.

I want to keep this simple, affordable, and sustainable. I want to build a community where we learn together, encourage one another, and focus on what truly moves the needle instead of chasing every new trend that appears in our social media feeds.

There's always another article to read.Another podcast to hear.Another supplement to buy.

At some point, though, we have to stop gathering information and start applying it.

If you're ready for change, I want to encourage you to stop endlessly browsing for the next answer.

Start with the foundation.

Let's build your health from the ground up.
